Nowra Thunder beaten in epic, controversial, Christmas grudge match. The Thunder looked to finish the year on a good note with a win against Twilight rivals Seven and a Half Men. However, the odds were stacked against the hosts when it was revealed that the opposition had recruited one of the Thunders own, Jordan Hockey. The Thunder, no doubt distraught by the act, played on with their usual chirpy gusto. A shock loss of the toss saw the Thunder bowl the first innings. The skipper sought to take early wickets as he gave the new ball to pace-maker David Ball and the elegant Aaron Driver; however, the two were unable to split opening partnership. After an economical first over by the skipper, including several missed opportunities, the opposition were on their way. Luke Huard, Papa Huard and Hockey each retired as they sought to take on the Thunders attack. Driver and Tatenda Mkonto were the only two to take wickets. The tourists finished at 2/151. The Thunders batting was less than convincing. David Ball made early inroads, but was caught in the outfield for 9, whilst Mkonto was bowled for 1. Driver became an anchor around others who fell cheaply. The Big Show, Ben Pritchett was caught edging to the keeper. Veteran Stuart Hunter returned and was caught for 7. Whilst Daniel Toole was unlucky to be bowled by a brilliant out-swinger from Hockey. The skipper came to the crease as Luke Huard tore out the Thunders heart. Both Driver and Hunter had fallen on successive deliveries. The skipper managed to keep the ball out, playing on for a steady 15. In what was a special moment. The skippers own brother Tim Nicholls combined for a late 20-run partnership which finished the hosts innings at 7/100. Tim was unbeaten 20. Tatenda was awarded the infamous Ponting award, whilst Driver received, Man of the Match for his 28 and tidy bowling. Well done team and Merry Christmas.
