OK so moving on from my last post whereby a name we were thinking for a new community development initiative was shown to be a touch inappropriate in a number of languages (Intanga is a Ndebele/Zulu word for seed but means in a thong in German and Spanish!), I would love your help to think of another as we are getting a little bit stuck. It can be one word or a few, or a phrase summed up in one word, etc. I cant at this point disclose much about what the organisation will do, but our thinking behind Intanga was that - it means seed which stemmed from the idea that the charity takes the seeds of ideas and knowledge already in the communities we work with and nutures and grows the ideas and needs through key inputs that in turn also support the empowerment of the community in return. This also fits with the sustainable nature of the organisation both in its own ethos and in working with nature and within natural limits for development. So that was our thinking, but now we are struggling for a name especially as our two favourite ones have just been knocked off the table. We want a name that means something and makes those of us behind the charity seem human, with ethical values. We are working with the pilot communities to come up with something in the local language but most of these seem to be rather unpronounceable! Suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks!
