OMISORE LISTS CONDITIONS FOR OPEN DEBATE WITH OGBENI AREGBESOLA OF OSUN STATE. The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Tuesday, reacted to the challenge of open debate with the incumbent governor of Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, saying some conditions must be met before he can honour an invitation to a debate. Aregbesola, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had during the commissioning of Ayegbaju Market, Osogbo, on Monday, challenged candidates of opposition parties in the state to a debate, regarding social and economic developments in Osun. Reacting to the invitation to a public debate, Omisore, in a statement forwarded to newsmen by the director of media and strategy of his campaign organisation, Mr Diran Odeyemi, said a current certificate of mental of fitness of Governor Aregbesola must first be tendered. The statement added that “this has become necessary, because a non-governmental organisation, Egalitarian Mission for Africa, had a running battle with Governor Aregbesola, concerning issues of his health status.” It read in part: “When an argument is being drawn between two unequal parties, the weaker of the two may result to physical assault and harrasment of the other party. Aregbesola has not hidden the fact that he has personal hatred for a complete gentleman PDP is presenting as standard- bearer. Senator Omisore, a complete gentleman and a holder of PhD, is aware that Aregbesola presented O’level to INEC. So, we we need an assurance that Aregbesola will not physically assault our candidate. “The governor is yet to properly address the questions raised by Egalitarian Mission of Africa, a group that took him to court, asking him to subject self to medical examination. Once we are assured that decorum would be allowed and that safety of our candidate is guaranteed, our candidate is ready for the debate. “Aregbesola has state boys, a group he is rearing and allowing our candidate to participate in a debate with violent people with array of thugs will be too much of a risk to take for us.”
