ORGANIC. What does it mean to You???? Recently a question of certification arose on another BUGS post an the statement was made regarding it necessity. We are, an choose to be certified organic. However even we do question at times the reasoning we are certified. It is an expensive decision and I do question whether the general populace (gardeners/consumer like all of us and at times me) understands the need for certification. I was hoping to get feedback from others to try and justify my logic for making this decision. Any input regarding your feelings of organically certified would be appreciated. Its my belief that we as gardeners all strive to produce quality organic produce from our own gardens. The question I continually ask myself is do people really understand what the term certified organic. For us it’s much more than just no chemicals or pesticides. The other question which is even more daunting is just how much pesticides/chemical are we inducing from conventional fresh fruit and veg. Recently at a Bio fertility course I had the pleasure of attending the lecture prompted the following question/statement. There have recently been study’s carried out in the US (we arent much different in this regard) and one of the most common food source was tested and contained 229 different Agro chemical in this product. Can you guess what the food source is? The Answer, is in fact Human Breast Milk ....................That sure made me stop and think. Any feedback is still greatly appreciated from like minded growers as I still struggle with the value of our certification especially considering our small volumes we produce.
