OUR CHANCE TO GET VEHICLES (4x4 etc) OFF UNSEALED RIGHTS OF WAY - TopicsExpress

OUR CHANCE TO GET VEHICLES (4x4 etc) OFF UNSEALED RIGHTS OF WAY (Restricted Byways etc.) - please read this and send 3 letters NEXT WEEK - they have to arrive before the 28th Oct. Please will your Bridleways group write to three members of the House of Lords, urgently Dear Bridleway Group This message is to let you know that on 28 October there will be a debate in the House of Lords on the use of green lanes by 4x4s and motor bikes. The focus of the debate will be an amendment to the Deregulation Bill requiring the government to identify the costs and burdens involved in the use of green lanes by motor vehicles and to report to Parliament on the question: Should legislation continue to permit mechanically propelled vehicles to use unsealed rights of way? We are a BHS affiliated bridleway group and we are working with other organisations to lobby members of the House of Lords to ask them to support the amendment. We are sorry about the very short notice but there has only just been confirmation from the House of Lords that the amendment is being tabled and debated. Offroading on riding routes is a particularly severe problem in our area, the Peak District, but we know that all over the country horse riders are being driven off their local riding routes by the damage being done to surfaces and by danger from offroad vehicles. If riders in your area are being affected by offroading, please will your BW group write quickly to at least three members of the House of Lords on the attached list? The list is made up of Lords we know are likely to be sympathetic. We do not have the resources to identify for you individually which Lords to write to. Instead please pick at random three Lords on the list whose surname starts with the same initial letter as your own. This way we should reach a good spread of Lords on the list. You can write the same letter to each of your chosen Lords . If you have time for only one letter, then one is better than none. The list of target Lords tells you how to address your letters and it gives you the House of Lords postal address. Points you could make in your letter(s) (but as far as possible in your own words please): • There will be a debate in the House of Lords on 28 October on an amendment to the Deregulation Bill which if adopted will oblige the government to identify the costs and burdens involved in the use of green lanes by motor vehicles and to report to Parliament on the question: Should legislation continue to permit mechanically propelled vehicles to use unsealed rights of way? • The amendment has all party and cross bench support • Say why you are opposed to 4x4s and motor bikes using green lanes and describe the impact offroading is having on horse riders in your area • You could also mention damage to the environment/your national park/your area of outstanding national beauty/ the countryside generally/ local residents/rural communities/farmers and landowners/walkers/cyclists - whatever is relevant to your area • Any other points you want to make • Ask them to please attend the House on 28 October and to support the amendment • If you have any photographs of green lanes damaged by motor vehicles, you could include them with your letter Please write to three Lords if you can, but one is better than none Please forward this email to all your personal riding/walking/countryside friends and contacts. We need as many people as we can possibly reach to write to Members of the Lords. Very many thanks for your help Patricia Stubbs Vice Chair, Peak Horse Power
