OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, THE WAY FORWARD - MY OPINION -------------------------------------- I dont think the pundits and human right activists are tackling the issue of our educational system from the core. All the analysis and the resolutions being drawn are all superficial. Lets tackle it from the basis by starting with the policies, laws and regulations governining our education sector by making it autonomous. By so doing inviting technocrates to draft a long and short term plans which every president has to see to it fulfilment. Also our structure must be decentralised to make every DCE to be accountable for the welfare of its teachers and educational workers esp circuit and zonal supervisors. If this is done, nationwide strikes will be a thing of the past because teachers will hold their DCEs responsible for non-payment of salaries and allowances. This can be effective if we are made to vote for our DCEs. Again, teachers must be paid based on their subject performances in major examinations, headteachers by their overall school performances and supervisors by the performance of schools under them. Lets make our system work again by completely overhauling it. Our school curriculum should be revised from time to time and make it more practical oriented than theoritical. We should be able to practice what we learn in school after school. To be continued.
