I don’t know how much you know about the outbreak of the ebola disease in the world today. But please permit me to give you some information about this satanic disease that has so far cut short the lives of over 4,000 people today. My name is Ben IYERE. On August 1st 2014, the World Health Organization (W.H.O) and the government of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia launched a joint US$ 100 million response plan as part of an intensified international, regional and national campaign to bring the outbreak under control. On August 8th 2014, the World Health Organization (W.H.O) declared the Ebola outbreak in West Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Today in Liberia, there are hundreds of children who have lost their parents (both father and mother) and even their brothers and sisters to this deadly disease called ebola. The disease kills so very fast that the parents of these unfortunate children are not even able to give detailed information about their other family members before dying. And most of the children left behind by these victims of this evil disease are so young that they cannot even tell you anything meaningful about their relatives. Even the ones whose other relatives were located, they are usually rejected by these other relatives of theirs and indeed the entire community for fear of contracting the disease. And we now have over 2,000 of such children in Liberia today. So you see; apart from the fact that these unfortunate children are still trying to come to terms with the fact that they will now have to face life without the care and love of their parents, they are also grappling with the rejection and stigmatization from their close relatives and community. We are told that when someone survives the ebola virus, he or she cannot contract the disease again even if he or she lay down on top a person who died of ebola. In other words, an ebola survivor is immune to the disease. So what the special task force set up by the Liberian government to combat the disease does is to take these unfortunate children orphaned by this satanic disease to the houses of these ebola survivors to be their foster children. But you know what? We now have cases where these foster parents and their very own biological children plus these foster children forced on them by the task force have been rejected and even driven away from the community where they resides by other residents of that community for fear of been infected with the virus. So the only option left for the task force now is to be sending these children orphaned by this evil virus to orphanages. And because of the economic situation in Liberia today (occasioned by the outbreak of this demonic disease), these orphanages cannot adequately carter for these children alone. They need the support of kind-hearted people like you and I. They are in urgent need of food and medical supplies if these unfortunate children will survive. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT IT MEANS FOR A CHILD WHO HAS LOST HIS PARENTS, REJECTED BY HIS RELATIVES AND COMMUNITY TO ALSO STAY WITHOUT FOOD? Because I am presently in Monrovia (the epic center of the disease in Liberia); and as a result of what I am seeing and hearing every day here, I can no longer just keep hoping and praying that this nightmarish situation will be over soon. I have decided to contribute (no matter how insignificant it may be) to the fight against ebola. We have been told by experts on the field fighting this deadly plague that by January 2015, this disease would have taken the lives of more than one million (1,000,000) people. This will be people with dreams for a better future. This will be parents whose children are looking up to them for a better future. This will be people whose country has spent so much on them with the hope that they will one day contribute to the development of their country. As a matter of facts, world health organization officials are telling anybody who cares to listen that it will take another 3 to 6 months before this satanic disease can be brought under control. Do I need to tell you what that means? That means more wives losing their husbands. That means more husbands losing their wives. That means more parents losing their children and more children losing their parents. When you heard me say I am presently in Monrovia, you may have been concerned; I thank you for your concern but I want you to know that I am doing all that is humanly possible to stay safe by the grace of God. Now, you may not be able to truly understand the enormity of the situation on the ground here in Liberia if you are reading this write-up in the comfort of your home or office, but I want you to know that right now as we speak, there are people who are either in holding or treatment centers all over the country that even their family members have been denied access to them or that have been abandoned there by their family members for fear of been infected by the virus. As a matter of fact, these infected people cannot even see the faces of the medical personnel in charge of their treatment because they are all dressed in their personal protective equipment that makes them look like people going to the moon. The reason why we are now having more children orphaned by this plague is because parents are now more aware (thanks to the aggressive ebola awareness campaign mounted by the special task force on ebola) that the disease is spread through physical contact with anyone or anything that is infected by the virus. So the moment these parents realize that they have been infected by the virus, they will immediately avoid any form of physical contact with their children hoping that if they eventually succumb to the disease (anybody infected by this disease has a 30 to 50% chance of surviving), you and I and other kind-hearted, godly and humanitarian people all around the world will help them not only to help the children they left behind survive, but also to help position them for a better future. As I write this piece today, my eyes are welled up with tears as a result of what is happening here. I hear on a daily basis, stories of a whole family been wiped out within a period of 4 weeks by this disease (ebola kills its victim within a period of 7 to 21 days). About 4 weeks ago (Sep. 2014), a young and very promising man who used to work in the same premises where my work place is located succumbed to the disease at his prime. WHAT I WANT FROM YOU Throughout the duration of this epidemic, I want to (on a weekly basis) be carrying food items to some of the orphanages that I have selected for this purpose.
