Objecting to corruption in either Ramallah or Gaza is risking ones life and possibly ones family and if not their lives, then their honour. Welcome to Palestinian Arab political culture where the only two league divisions in town, the Islamist Conference and the PLO Federation and all the political teams that play for each Division respectively, each have their own extra-league armed militias in addition to the official intra-league armies and police forces, where recruitment can commence at the start of life, where every wall has ears, where rumour an innuendo can dictate and sentence guilt, where crimes are committed that cannot be reported, where there is a limit to the degree to which you can be outspoken should your ideas be considered disrespectful of the honour of the militias or the honour of the political elites. The safest topic that one can be politically outspoken about of course is discourse referring to the ever increasing and boundless malevolence of the Jews. And sure enough 80% of Palestinians recently told the leading Palestinian pollster that they wish to resume rocket fire at Israeli civilian populations and ceremonies hailing the bravery of the two men who admitted to murdering three Israeli teens for the crime of being Jewish in their presence are well attended and glorified as heroic and martyrs that everyone ought to emulate.
