October 24, 1988: In a totally frivolous lawsuit, former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty was sued by his former boss, Fantasy Records head Saul Zanetz, for allegedly plagiarizing himself. Zanetz claimed Fogerty re-wrote Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Run Through the Jungle” for his 1985 hit “The Old Man Down the Road”. During the trial, Fogerty brought his guitar to the witness stand and played excerpts from both songs, demonstrating that many songwriters (himself included) have distinctive styles that can make different compositions sound similar to less discerning ears. He wins the case. (I Love It Loud! Today in Rock n Roll History)
