Ogun PDP assembly candidates back Jonathan, Isiaka By Correspondent, Abeokuta The 26 House of Assembly candidates of the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the president’s performance remained the best thing to have happened to the party and the country. They also lauded Jonathan, the PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for following due process in the selection and acceptance of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Prince Gboyega Isiaka. They vowed to work with the chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of South West PDP, Prince Buruji Kashamu, in securing victory for the party in Ogun State during the general elections. In a statement issued in Abeokuta and endorsed by Wale Alausa, Abdulfatah Agunleti, Bimbo Lanre-Balogun and Julianah Akintayo, among others, the PDP candidates applauded Jonathan’s investment in infrastructure, agriculture and employment generation in the last three and half years. ?They averred that the president meant well for Nigeria, urging Nigerians to disregard the barrage of attacks against him and re-elect him in the February presidential poll. The PDP candidates also observed that Jonathan ensured that? Ogun State and the South West zone especially had their fair share in the scheme of things in the country. They pointed out that the total reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway as well as the rebuilding of the Sagamu-Benin-Ore expressway were commendable projects initiated by the president. They also noted that thousands of young graduates have benefitted from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) while the president also facilitated the appointment of several indigenes of the state into federal positions, boards, parastatals and agencies. ?The statement reads, “Since he was sworn-in in 2011, several projects were purposefully conceptualised to put smiles on faces of Nigerians without fear or favour. “Apart from ensuring that South West, Ogun State in particular has its fair share in the scheme of things in Nigeria, Jonathan re-ignited our people’s hope by re-awarding contracts for reconstruction of major highways which had been in a state of disrepair for many years in our geopolitical zone. “As a man with a vision to revive agriculture which was once our country’s mainstay, President Jonathan appointed an Ogun indigene, Akinwunmi Adesina, as Minister of Agriculture. And through him, fertilisers, mobile phones, credit facilities as well as conducive avenue were given and created for farmers to be able to export their produce. “This Forum salutes President Jonathan?’s humility, perseverance and calmness in the face of barrage of attacks and shenanigans by the opposition. Rather, his respect and reverence for the rule of law has made the president to remain focused on delivering on his mandate and espouse good governance. As a statesman, he has refused to be dragged into needless confrontations capable of distracting his government.” ?On the governorship ticket in the state, the 26 candidates commended the PDP national leadership for choosing Isiaka as the party’s flag bearer. They said, “This has really shown that due process which our great party is known for, was followed in choosing him. This laudable step by PDP in Ogun State has bolstered the spirit of equity, justice and fairness in the state as Yewa-Awori zone has not produced a governor since 1976 when Ogun State was created. “To this end, PDP has clearly demonstrated its love for Ogun West as the emergence of Isiaka as the party candidate has conferred a sense of belonging on the senatorial district. Therefore, the Forum affirms that Isiaka is the best man
