Oh! People are really sorry and devastated over the barbaric act - TopicsExpress

Oh! People are really sorry and devastated over the barbaric act in Pakistan by Taliban. Many have changed their DP on ‘what’s up’ and ‘profile pictures’ in facebook to a Candle to show their symbolic grief aroused by the act. I am touched too, but more because of amplification of the incident than by the incident itself. Taking the risk of sounding a bit inhumane and rude, but I was forced to read the poem वो 26/11 था आज 16/12 है ...................... हमें दुख कल भी था हमें दुख आज भी है and other similar emotional stuffs, numerous times. Many of my friends expressed their angst through such ‘forwarded contents’ all over the communication mediums they had an access to. Thanks to the social media!! But my only urge is to remember 9/11 as well, where more than 3000 people were killed at a stroke, I repeat MORE THAN Three Thousand people. More devastating for me was when the devil Osama Bin Laden was found taking a sound sleep in Army Camp of Islamabad. A mumbaikar understands better, because each time he travels in Mumbai Local he is susceptible. For me/us there is no escape from this fear, as there is no escape from Mumbai Local. People around the country call it ‘Spirit of Mumbai’, I call it ‘Helplessness of Mumbai’. I am more devastated when I know the reason for our fear is allowed to loiter freely in their soil. But, today the purpose of writing is not what Pakistan did, is doing or will do to us. My dissention is over our collective response on a much smaller massacre happened in Pakistan, compared to whatever have been happening to the world so far on account to ‘them’. Don’t judge me wrong, I am too a human being full of humanity, but then I just wish to see your humanity in equal proportion. We are free to express our emotions, but not the contagion emotional stuffs transferred to us through social media. We are experiencing an emotion, which the people around us want us to experience and further pass on. It’s not our own emotions, its borrowed emotions. Now a days, messages over social media are so much a part of our modern life that we often fail to notice how big an influence they exert on our behavior. To leverage on a saleable content for overt and covert profit is becoming the objective of media. The users like us are being used and manipulated as just a small portion of this business system. I don’t see any reason, why should you not exert your emotions/frustrations and lit candle in your profile pics when 60 people (SIXTY PEOPLE) lost their eyesight and turned BLIND after botched cataract surgery in Punjab, just couple of days before the Pakistan Incident. 15 innocent women died after undergoing botched sterilization operation in Chattisgarh and around seventy women were hospitalized in a critical condition (I presume, you are aware of these incidents). Nirbhaya Rape was just a one off incident who gained so much ‘trending’ in media, there are several others who get molested, raped and murdered every single day in India. In case you are more concerned of International camaraderie, go and google for Palestine mass massacre and death count there. Trust me, these death counts are much more than 132 in a day and deserve much more ‘trending’ and symbolic agitations than Pakistan Incident. You have every right to exert and express your emotions in whatever ways you want and on whatever issues you want; but please do some justice to similar or more dreadful issues happening in India first. And everytime terrorists may not be the sole reason against all such ‘trending’ and ‘saleable’ issues. Let we express our emotions in balance and in proportion to the more deserving issues.
