Oh Yeah The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “It is one of the gravest sins (Kaba’ir) to abuse one’s parents.” It was asked: “Oh Messenger of Allah! Can a man abuse his own parents?” The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Yes! He insults the father of somebody who in return insults his father; he then insults the mother of somebody who in return insults his mother.” [Sahih Bukhari] A man once came to Imam Abu Ḥanifah (raḥimahullah) in the middle of the night, in a very anxious and stressed state, and said to him: “My wife has been very unkind to me, proving very stubborn and now even refuses to speak to me whatever I try to say or do. She made me so angry and upset that I said to her, ‘By Allah, if you dont speak tonight then I will divorce you!’ The problem is that I love her too much and I dont want to divorce her, but she wont speak, so what can I do to get myself out of divorcing her?” Imam Abu Ḥanifah replied, “Dont worry, just go to her now and say to her, ‘Your dads a weaver (an insult)!’” So the puzzled man went back to his wife and said exactly that to her. She looked at him in shock and said, “Oh yeah? YOUR dads a weaver!” And thus the divorce was pre-empted, and they lived happily ever after.
