Ojudu Mourns Crash Victims~#PmNews The lawmaker representing Ekiti Central in the Senate, Mr. Babafemi Ojudu, says he is yet to come out of the shock arising from the sad news about last Thursday’s crash of Associated Airplane conveying the remains of former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Agagu, whom he described as a brother. In a statement in Ado-Ekiti, Ojudu, who described the late former governor as a nimble-minded fellow, said though death is inevitable for everyone, he is yet to come to terms with the fact that Agagu had really left this world. He said that although he had had cause to disagree with Agagu on some occasions when he was alive, he still “ repected his intelligence, depth of reasoning and the ability to take in so much at the same time even when one thinks he is not paying attention.” While praying God to provide succour for the Agagu family, the government and the people of Ondo State at a time like this, Ojudu also condoled with the Falae family, saying “the death of Deji Falae is another depreciation in Nigeria’s torch of hope as he represented the best the country has to offer.” Ojudu said at a time like this, one can only draw strength from God, believing, though difficult, that he has a reason for everything. He sympathised with the families of all the victims of the ill-fated Associated Airline’s Embraer aircraft crash, particularly that of the of the owner of MIC Caskets, Mr. Okusanya and his son, adding that everyone who knew Okusanya would miss his friendship and large heart. Ojudu said the lesson Nigerian leaders should draw from these happenings is that it is high time they started paying attention to the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians whom he said have been neglected for too long. “We must realise that we breathe in the same air, use the same roads and airspace. The same things that affect the masses also affect us, hence the need for a coordinated and conscientious policy to make the welfare and wellbeing of the masses the fulcrum of all government programmes. “We members of the ruling class have to come down from our high horse by realizing that we do not have our own separate airspace or roads. Therefore we must make them good for everyone so that we too and our children can have peace. “Even when we send our children to school abroad, they will one day return home and God forbid, the nemesis of our actions and inactions might end up catching up with them,” he said. Ojudu lamented that the ruling class, of which he is a member, has abandoned the people for too long, fashioning out policies after policies that have no bearing on decent living for Nigerians, but rather tailored to line the pockets of the so-called leaders with funds that should have ordinarily been committed to wiping away the tears of Nigerians and the agonizing hopelessness and financial impotence that seem to be the daily features of their lives. According to Ojudu, anyone among the members of the ruling class that believes he is invincible or untouchable is only being foolish and might end up being the next victim of the decadence that pervades the entire land.
