Ok, I finally saw Blackish on ABC and How to Get away with Murder - TopicsExpress

Ok, I finally saw Blackish on ABC and How to Get away with Murder on the same network as well as the season opener for Scandal A few observations: *Blackish is not the Cosby Show---yet. Yes, both parents are upper middle class blacks like the Huxtables were, but this show will deal with ( I think) some issues that are specific to Generation X and the Millenials, which is how to raise black kids in a multicultural society while still retaining cultural sensitivites and knowledge. I have met more than my share of blacks my age and younger who are completely uncomfortable with being black so yes, this should be interesting. *Viola Davis is one extremely beautiful and talented woman, but as I watched her new show (Murder), it reminded me too much of work. I kept getting the feeling that I needed to be looking over a deposition transcript or a file and tv, for me, is a time to escape from reality. So Im not so sure Im gonna keep watching, but I wish the show success. *Yes, I am a Gladiator. My man card is still intact, but I am a huge fan of the beautiful and brilliant Kerry Washington and if she is in it, I am watching it. So I am glad that Scandal is back. But.... I still lament the lack of positive black males in this show. Yeah, I know that the character Harrison, played by Columbus Short, was killed off after he went and Ray Riced his wife in real life earlier this year. But aside from Harrison, the only other persistent black male on the show is Daddy Pope, who is the epitome of dysfunction on so many levels. What happened to that Black Senator from a few years back, the one who tried to wine and dine Livy Pope while the white prez, Fitz Grant, and his homeboy Jake were smashing Pope all across DC? Or, like my frat Jimmy E. Greene said earlier, if Fitz Grant was played by Blair Underwood and Livy was played by Mila Kunis, I wonder how many sisters on my FB thread would be saying awwwww when they start bumping and grinding in the White House closets? Few, Id bet... The season is early, no doubt, and who knows what Shonda has in store. But I, for one, would like to see a strong black male character who aint crazy get thrown into the mix, too!
