Ok its late, very late and I dont normally post anything other - TopicsExpress

Ok its late, very late and I dont normally post anything other than my artwork on this page but after watching and alternately painting my way through the game and its commercials this evening I felt compelled to say a few things. Solely to address the coke commercial and all the vitriol that followed. Firstly I am not a bigot, racist, ignorant, or a narrow minded individual simply based on my ethnic background or the fact that I hail from the southern portion of the US. If you presume I am as such then you are the narrow minded bigot that you preach so much revulsion for. I am well aware that America was founded by immigrants and as such is the quintessential melting pot. Despite this fact I found it somewhat distasteful that one of our national songs was played in a variety of languages as some sort of come together bad Benetton ad of lets all get along goodness. I have in the wake of this ad seen a number of views voicing opinions rating from well intentioned to down right offensive. For those who were quick to defend the ad which one of you would travel to another country and insist as an immigrant that they rearrange their culture to mold to your own? Who would ask as an immigrant that another country change the language in one of their national songs to anything other than their native tongue? To do so would make you a bully, yes? Isnt preaching any outside cultural or religious views punishable by death or imprisonment in a variety of other countries? Some of which we so eagerly set aside our own tenets to please. If one is seeking citizenship in this country isnt the majority of the test based on a basic grasp of the English language? So why on earth have we as a society become so apologetic that we will set aside things as basic as our predominant language to appease the feelings of other cultures? If you journeyed to America in pursuit of a better life then why should we change our ways to suit your cultural background? All of this nonsense I have read to the effect of the complaints are no surprise, that we as a people are ignorant and other statements exclaiming, I live in the south and Im trying to get out. are even more offensive. My thoughts are if you hate the south or the predominantly English speaking US so much then hop on a humanitarian flight with Dennis Rodman to some third world country and exclaim in the name of diversity and acceptance that they change their national songs/ anthems to English in order to reflect a higher level of social consciousness. Im sure they will immediately apologize for their former ways and provide you with a state ID, free food, and free healthcare. Best of luck from one extremely fed up, super tolerant, all people loving, unbiased southern lady. I didnt even curse. If you find this post irreparably offensive you may leave this page of your own accord. Go in peace but I will not apologize for my heritage or my geographic location. All my love Rebecca.
