Okorocha Congratulates Obi For Dumping APGA Imo State Governor, - TopicsExpress

Okorocha Congratulates Obi For Dumping APGA Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday congratulated the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, for his decision for dumping the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), saying the party had relegated Ndigbo to the background in Nigerian politics and leadership struggle. Okorocha, who described the former Anambra State governor as a progressive, however regretted that his decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he said had turned the Ndigbo to the hewers of wood and drawers of water, was a wrong choice. However, the governor noted that the decision of Obi to become a competitor in national affairs rather than a spectator had distinguished him as an illustrious son of Ndigbo. The Imo governor, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said: “Obi’s latest action has only shown that he has seen what Governor Okorocha saw few years back that warranted his departure from APGA to be one of the key progressive actors that came together to midwife the merger that ultimately led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to the glory of God, a good Igbo man like Chief Obi has finally come to reason with him. “The only exception is Chief Obi’s choice of PDP which does not seem to have any plan for the Igbo race either in the short and in the long run. One had expected Chief Obi to join APC that has a very bright future for Ndigbo to become president of the country either now or in the nearest future. “Again taking into cognizance of the fact that notable progressive Igbo politicians that had come and gone like Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, Micheal Okpara, Mbonu Ojike, Sam Mbakwe, Ikemba Odimegwu Ojukwu all belonged to progressive parties at their times because the Igbo with their egalitarian and republican disposition are naturally progressives and a man like Chief Obi should be rooting for progressive parties like APC and not PDP. “At this point in time, Igbo people should be in the Vanguard of progressive vis-à-vis people-oriented politics and government at any level in the politics of the nation. Chief Peter Obi did well as Anambra governor and had displayed the traits of a progressive leader and should not have any reason to join PDP. It is not late for him to correct the mistake.” The Sun
