Old Wine in New Bottle: Muslim Invasion of Buddhists in CHT July 1, 2014 at 11:29am Old Wine in New Bottle : Muslim Invasion of Buddhists in CHT Muslim army from the Arab world motivated with Muhammad’s jihadist ideology invaded present Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh and destroyed Buddhism there during their rule from the 9th to the early 18th century. They mercilessly massacred millions of Buddhist men, women and children (it may be noted in this context that there was no international law -- no UN, no human rights groups and no media by that time) and forcibly converted millions of Buddhists into Islam. They reduced Buddhist temples and universities like Nalanda University into ashes and/or ruins. Many Buddhists were forced to flee to hill terrains, such as Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sikkim, Ladakh, Tibet, Nepal etc. for survival of Islamic jihad. So we still see Buddhism in those places survived primarily because Muslims failed to reach there for geo-political adversities. No Buddhist text was found in India, the land of the origin of Buddhism! Buddhists and their heritage were wiped out from the country! The British came and defeated Muslim ruler Siraj-ud-daulah at the Palasy Battle (West Bengal) in 1757 and gradually started colonizing entire India (Pakistan, India and Bangladesh together). And It was only during the British colonial rule in India that Western administrator-scholars, like William Jones, James Princep, John Marshall, Alexander Cunningham, Max Muller, Mr. and Mrs. Rhys David, Edward Arnold, Olden Berg, Poussin etc. along with Indian scholars like Rajendralal Mitra, Rabindranath Tagore, Ananda Koushalayan, D. D. Kosambi etc. rediscovered, excavated, researched and recovered Buddhism from its ruins. Later, it may be mentioned, Sri Lankan great man Anagarika Dhammapala and Indian “Bodhisattva” Dr. B. R. Ambedkar gave a new life to Indian Buddhism. We would have not seen Buddhism in India today had the British not come and defeated Muslim rulers there. Bangladeshi Muslims, whose ancestors were all Buddhists and Hindus, are still continuing old jihad against Buddhists in Chiitagong Hill Tracts and Myanmar but in new style, demographic invasion in particular, as if using old wine in new bottle, as per the temperament of the present time and situation.
