On Arguments. Arguments stand or fall on their own. Invoking the experience, character or disposition of the one offering the argument as grounds to dismiss the argument instead of offering a counter-argument is irrational. It may be possible that a persons perspective is biased. It does not matter. If the argument stands on its own merits, it cant be dismissed no matter how biased or privileged or despicable you think the messenger is. Learn to separate the argument from the person. In so doing, youll occasionally learn from those you disagree with. And if you defeat their argument without having to attack the messenger, youll occasionally convert the messenger to your perspective. Win-win.
