On FXs new series Tyrant, English actor Adam Rayner plays Bassam Barry Al Fayeed, younger son of a dictator of the fictional Middle Eastern country of Baladi. Barry has been living in the United States, working as a pediatrician in Los Angeles. Based on the story of Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad as well as elements from neighboring countries, Tyrant is said to be the most expensive production ever filmed in Israel to date. Cast members include Israels Moran Atias and Ashraf Barhom. Egyptian Sammy Sheik plays Hamid & Waleed Elgadi of Sudan plays the role of Walid Rashid. Executive producer Howard Goldon told Indiewire that Tyrant is about whats happening in Egypt, Libya & Syria: ...to have the opportunity to tell a story about people and put faces on the things that are merely headlines felt just too good to ignore.
