On my way out of Gate 2, I saw a visually-impaired man holding a wooden stick with his kid. I thought theyre asking alms to the guard. I pause for a while then listen to what hes saying. I found out that hes asking where the guidance office was. He added that he will accompany his friends son whos going to take the entrance exam. The guard told him to enter the gate 1 instead. Knowing that hes blind, I introduced myself and volunteered to accompany him to the office where he intended to go. He thanked me and so we went inside. I noticed that he bit knew where to turn left or right. Im curious if he can visualize a little or hes totally blind and so I asked him. He answered the second one. He then asked me if Im an instructor, I answered that Im just a student of the university. When we got inside the Guidance Office, the secretary asked me who are those people Im with. I replied that I just helped them to get in and told her what they needed. She moved closer to the man Im with and suddenly recognized him. The secretary thanked me and told that he was a MassCom graduate of the university. I proudly said that Im also taking up the same program. I was amazed and cant help my tears from falling knowing that a blind person like him was able to graduate with a degree. My conscience bothered me for thinking that he was an uneducated man. His visual impairedness was never been a hindrance for him to acquire tertiary education. True to the words of our university founder, Education is a birth right. Hands up to you, Kuya! :)))
