On special occasions, Baba will make one of two desserts: baked cheesecake or trifle. Here is her recipe for trifle, as written on the recipe card she gave to me: 4 cups milk (Im guessing 2%) Separately beat 3 egg yolks with 1/2 cup of the milk 5 heaping tablespoons corn starch 1/4 cups white sugar 1 tsp vanilla Bring 1/4 pots worth of water to a boil and place a double boiler on top. But everything above into the double boiler and keep mixing until this filling thickens. Cool, keep covered, and make sure there is no hardness or film on top) Buy angel food cake, Best! Break in small pieces. In a deep bowl, layer bottom of your dish with chunks of the cake. Sprinkle any booze, cover with cool cream filling from above. But an assortment of berries on top and around, cover with more broken pieces of cake. Some more booze - brandy is OK, any kind. More fruit, all around, more custard all around. Make 3 layers of each - cake, filling with booze, fruit. Top with dream whip or cool whip. Best if stays overnight covered in saran wrap. Enjoy!
