On the 9 to Sunnyvale a man starts kind of quietly yelling at his seat companion. He is big, well dressed. She is, too, and tiny, maybe a third his size. In the one stop I am in with them he pushes her while sitting. Nigger, shut your mouth, he says. Twice. What did you say to me? Pushes her again, hard. I am fumbling to find my phone. None of these people are gonna help you. Get off the bus. They get off at the next stop. Before the bus pulls away he had her cornered against the wall, and he spits directly in her face. Nobody on the bus does anything. We are moving by this point. I dont have my phone out in time. Not a but enough soy for mento get off with them. Id be alone with them. I go to the bus driver who is training another driver. I ask him what we can do. I dont think they drivers have called their central control. What do I do?
