On this day, 130 years ago, as Charleston, South Carolina was celebrating the centennial of a city that was named after King Charles II of England, Mary Matthews Just gave birth to Ernest Everett Just. Dr. T.B. McDow performed an easy delivery a little after midnight on Tuesday morning, 14 August. It was a boy with light reddish skin, coarse brown hair, and sharply carved features.
