On this day in music history: August 14, 1971 - “Al Green Gets Next To You”, the third album by Al Green is released. Produced by Willie Mitchell, it is recorded at Royal Recording Studios in Memphis, TN from Late 1970 - Early 1971. The album will be the breakthrough for the Arkansas born soul singer. Featuring a combination of covers (“I Can’t Get Next To You”, “Light My Fire”, “Driving Wheel”, “God Is Standing By”) and original songs, it will spin off three singles including his first major hit “Tired Of Being Alone” (#7 R&B, #11 Pop) which will be the first of seven consecutive million selling singles for him. “Al Green Gets Next To You” will peak at number fifteen on the Billboard R&B album chart and number fifty eight on the Top 200.
