Once upon a time a ruler could inflict multiple trails on a citizen until eventually they were found guilty of something. Those people of interest could be detained indefinably with out trial, before trial, or between multiple trails. Our founders knew a speedy trial and a one time charge would risk guilty people going free. This was deemed acceptable over the risk of innocent people suffering punishment without a crime at all. Both systems have risk. Our system errors on the side of the citizen. It used to. We seemed to have forgot a basic principle and why it is a principle. There is a bigger picture here and a bigger price to pay. The prosecution represents the people of the state or people of the whole country in federal cases. Their unlimited resources and funds are off set by a one time chance in a short duration of time called "speedy". Removing the limitation for high profile cases does what to the average cases?
