One early morning we heard on our radios a scheduled National Council meeting has been called off and all efforts to reach the Gen Sec went futile. Apparently soon after he issued the press release he flew away to London. Later news filtered in that the one Hoziema has gone to court to challenge the composition of the National Council. NPP as an entity is govern by laws and regulation and to some extent some by cultural practices evolved over the years. The argument by some was that, though the constitution of the party is explicit on how the National Council shd be constituted, the traditions has been by nomination, hence if this flies in the face of the law, why not, we shall submit to the constitution. The strange part however was that, the Gen Sec and the Chairman who benefited from the previous NC were very much in support of the revision. The mantra then was let the constitution work!! Election Engineer Kwabena Agyapong believes in the constitution and wants to work with it. However, and rather sadly, the man who believes in the constitution has now found a way to work in complete conflict of the constitution and resorted to PNDC era style of rule by impulse and whimsical thought. Against the clearly worded provision of the constitution, the Gen Sec in concert with the Chairman have issued proceed on leave order to Acting Dir of Comm, whom by the very constitution is at par with the Gen Sec in the administrative echelon. Not just that, the duo went ahead and published names of Dep Dirs of Comm all these on the blindside of the Steering Committee, let alone the larger body of NEC. The question to be ask is what has changed? Folks, some years ago Jerry Rambo Rawlings lamented that working with constitution was a serious challenge to his style of leadership. To him the constitution was a bother and his free spirit and capricious approach to leadership was being challenged by the constitution.. Are we seeing same of the persons whom some few weeks ago were chanting Let the party Constitution work? I am serving notice, if this arbitrarily exercise of power by these two is not checked, there will be a lot more Hoziema in the offing!
