One of my favorites. You can find the lyrics here: the-american-catholic/2010/05/30/kellys-irish-brigade/ Civil War was certainly a tragic page of this countrys history, and its especially bitter to see how Irish immigrants got involved with it on both sides, with their celtic passion. No wonder that many of them were fighting for the North - Irish were themselves often sold to slavery (which was never a racial issue) in the New World, and so it makes perfect sense that they would rally against the South, where slavery was still practiced. An Irish CSA general, Patrick Cleburne, lamented the fact that slavery, being absolutely immoral, became a huge liability for the South (never mind the fact that most of southerners didnt own slaves, and were hugely disadvantaged by slavery economically, as it put them at a competitive disadvantage).
