One of my students, who I am always concerned about, was sitting - TopicsExpress

One of my students, who I am always concerned about, was sitting under the oak tree outside our classroom by himself today during a brain break. He looked so down so I walked over and sat next to him in the grass. I asked, whats going on? He said he was sad he didnt get to finish his narrative in class. I said not to worry because we would have more time! But he still looked sad, so I asked, whats really going on? He told me that he was just so tired because he had been getting up at 5 am every morning to come to school. I told him he could take a nap on the couch in our class during PE anytime he needed to. Then, I got distracted by some other children. A little while later he came tugging on my shirt. He told me that he needed to tell me another reason why he was feeling sad...the reason I am sad is because I dont have a best friend anymore. And it was true, the only child that he ever befriended had recently moved away and I didnt think about it affecting him that much. But to my hearts surprise, another little boy had overheard the conversation and dropped to his knees in front of the boy I had been talking with, and begged for him to be his new friend. They pranced off together. :) We all have struggles, but its amazing what love can do to lift you up!
