Real delegation is not just about giving people important tasks or projects it is also about allowing them the freedom to get on with their work. Anyone who attempts to take on complete control of everything that goes on within a fast-growing business is courting disaster. Once you get to the stage where you have a seven figure turnover and a staff of more than 20 then the time has come to start delegating if you have not done so already. As I said in order to do so you have to have complete trust and confidence in the people that work for you. That process of building trust should begin with the recruitment process. From the very outset you should be looking to employ people that you feel comfortable with and have confidence in them being able to deliver on their promises. In the early days of a business getting the right people in the right positions can make all the difference between success and failure. Once you have your key people in place then it is important to build a close working relationships. Individuals should always understand exactly what is expected from them but just as importantly staff should know they are trusted. This kind of close working relationship is not something that happens overnight, people will always take time to get to know and understand one another. It also needs both sides to be fully committed to the process, the best relationships are always the ones which work in both directions. Finally it is also vital to create the kind of working atmosphere that allows healthy working relationships to flourish. In order to do that you need to build a culture of absolute trust and mutual respect. That means always congratulating people when they have performed well and steering clear of any kind of blame culture when things go wrong. copied...
