One of world’s rarest cats given to rescue centre! HE’s a cat that defies genetics – a 400,000-to-one. Little Harry has raised eyebrows among experts at an animal welfare charity – by being one of the few male tortoiseshells in the world. Around 99.96 per cent of tortoiseshell cats are born female due to the way genes dictating coat colour are passed down. Male tortoiseshells can be born through a genetic mutation that causes the cat to be born with two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome (XXY). None of the staff at Furry Friends Vets have seen a male tortoiseshell cat. Please share any stories you have of your pets being just that little bit different. m.edinburghnews.scotsman/news/one-of-world-s-rarest-cats-given-to-rescue-centre-1-3609492
