One thing l miss from my teenage years is the excitement a new album release would create, people lining up at stores to buy them, stealing them………, going to friends houses who had the new record, taking the train to metal for Melbourne etc, and then there was the fact the band would make an event out of it, Metallicas black album, Crues Dr Feelgood, Def Leppard Hysteria, Appetite for Destruction, Slave to the grind,Use your Illusion, all bands who made a event of their releases, and you would actual take notice of sales, album charts, then there was nothing. And for the last 15 years albums just appear and go away just as fast, maybe its the lack of effort of the band or management, who knows, but no one makes an effort, even the art of buying concert tickets is gone because of the internet, lining up was always awesome, now you can miss the floor tickets by 9:01am. But lately l see a flicker of hope, Jack White makes events of his releases, he made the Ultra LP for Lazaretto, and what happens? the biggest for week of vinyl sales since Pearl Jams Vita logy, effort!, now l sit back tonight and watch the first episode of Sonic Highways the new Foo Fighters docos recording their new album, and l see a band making an effort to be different, and just making an effort full stop, and l have never been a big fan, but that new song is killer, and l have no doubt in will sell strongly due to a band turning their release into an event, l hear so many old bands say now days, no one wants to hear an album anymore, just want to hear old hits or singles, no, people dont want to hear shit records with 3 good songs on them, they want to hear as the saying goes, All killer, no filler, make an effort, make an event, make great songs and they will have no other choice but to buy it. Have a good night.
