Ontology: fancy academic term for a discussion and/or debate - TopicsExpress

Ontology: fancy academic term for a discussion and/or debate topic that might be characterized as asking the question What is REAL? As I have repeated ad nauseam, ad infinitum, ad (fill in your favorite pejoratives) my axiomatic dogmatism intones God alone is REAL and God is the Self in every finite self Unsurprisingly, I have yet to find an atheist who does not agree with this definition of what is REAL -- or what exists? I think I am sincerely interested in alternate views of the REAL, reality etc. Any atheists curious about this philosophical/scientific subject? a footnote: if theology is a logical science, it starts with some proposition similar to my prefacing definition. Ontology starts before theology. another footnote: we may not be able to call ontology the first science borrowing an Aristotelian phrase. The first science(s) might be a combination of anthropology/psychology/biology -- since we should account for how it is that we are thinking about questions to begin with. a third footnote: a gleaning from Stephen Hawkings writings -- paraphrasing We all have a theory of everything implicitly. Since reality is so complex and all encompassing, human limitation aggregates a large number of partial theories that constitute what we experience as knowledge. A true complete theory of everything has to account for all phenomena in the universe, including the phenomena of human beings thinking about the theory of everything. I am VERY impressed with Hawkings philosophical hipness. a fourth footnote: obtw, for Hawking model and theory are synonyms.
