Opportunity for Public Testimony Tuesday! Join me at the LIO tomorrow? Ill be there as soon as I can--I have a meeting from 3:30 to 4:30 with a group advocating to retain the Middle School model, but Ill be down at the LIO as soon after that as I can!! Anchorage Legislative Information Office 733 W 4th Avenue, Suite 100 If you don’t like the cuts, speak up ! Tuesday, March 4 4:15-5:45 PM Anchorage. The House Finance Committee is taking public testimony on the State’s operating budget – including FOUNDATION FUNDING – over the next two days. This is a rare opportunity to testify and voice support for increasing school funding -- especially to raise the base student allocation by at least $400. There’s a 2 minute time limit, so making your comments direct and to the point is important. House Finance requests people arrive 15 minutes early for the sign in process. There will be sign in sheets at each Legislative Information Office (LIO) and in the House Finance Committee Room (5th floor Capitol Building, Channel side). they also ask that all those wishing to testify arrive at least 15 minutes before the end of the scheduled closing. You will be asked to state your name for the record and who you represent. For most of us, we’re representing ourselves and our families. Messaging: The point is to respectfully request legislators to increase their investment in public education by raising the base student allocation by at least $400. Tell them why it’s important. If you are conversant with the numbers, use them. If not, focus on the consequences of budget cuts which you feel will be harmful to your schools and your children/friends/neighbors. Example: I support increasing funding for public schools. The cuts that are being proposed to our schools are unacceptable and will have a negative impact on the quality of education available in our local schools (describe a pending cut you particularly dislike). My son/daughter/grandchild is a student at ____________ where I spend time as a volunteer. I urge you to increase the Base Student Allocation to ensure schools have the resources to do their job well. I expect excellence in our schools and that takes a greater investment by the State.
