Opposition MPs are happy after having stymied Putrajaya’s plan to impose a 12-year cap on the lifespan of cars, saying that this proved a united opposition pact can force the federal government to think twice before riding roughshod over the people. Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who is one of the more vocal lawmakers against the policy, said because Pakatan Rakyat had been pushing the boundaries over the past few years, Putrajaya is now more careful about their plans. This sets a precedent where if we feel that a plan is not going to benefit the public, we need to oppose it from the very beginning. Barisan Nasional will accuse us of spinning or jumping the gun, but it is by jumping the gun that opens the way forward, he told The Malaysian Insider at the parliament lobby today. He said from this episode, it was clear that the people need to give their input and resist from the beginning any plans that were not beneficial to society.
