Organic Selenium by Mike Earley I was exposed to an organic - TopicsExpress

Organic Selenium by Mike Earley I was exposed to an organic selenium source for livestock, when it was first entering the Canadian market, selenomethionine. Lucky for me there was only a couple of producers at this meeting, so information and questioning was intense, which convinced me it was something I needed in my mineral. My feed representative was also with me so a complete mineral mix was then formulated including this new product. I had done blood testing to check mineral levels previous to this and knew our area was low in selenium and with balancing diets doing all we could nutritionally with government levels and injecting it, wondered why selenium levels were still low? We were anxious to see what the new formulation would show us. What I noticed with the addition of the organic source of selenium to my mineral was how vibrant the cleanings were and how long they stayed that way if you found one. I stopped needling calves at birth with selenium because we found levels to be high enough by testing. This observation made sense to me as there is research stating only organic yeast selenium is transferred across the placenta to the developing fetus. Fast forward through company mergers, people playing with computers and profit, and me observing my cows I found how much I needed to be in control of what I was purchasing. This selenium source proved positive change, yet my cattle showed me by their health that more tweeking was needed. I had trusted what I had built and what was bought, tag the same, but still not the optimum mix. It took me a couple of years, and lots of observation, found out selenium level inclusion rate was changed because of potency yet ppm or mg/kg was same, hence the delay in getting my optimum formulation. Persistency, finger pointing, believing in what I saw and standing my ground, resulted in an ideal formulation consisting of only an organic selenium source, which is not usually the case but I know it can be or should be a major portion. I put out free choice organic selenium along my mineral. Started out with cup size portions spread out along a feed manger. They ate and ate not all at once but would come when you put it out. People thought I was going to kill them and if it was the inorganic kind yes it probably would have. They ate the selenium yeast first gone all the time some of my mineral and the kelp on and off. That was October 2008 fast forward to spring and udders on my beef cows looked like silky dairy cow udders, hair had deep shine to hair coats and issues decreased. I have told my story to lots, showed them and let their cows show them what can change. Have worked with ranchers from scours to semen quality, weak heats to increased somatic cell counts, increasing fertilization, reduced immunity, performance horses to ranch horses, nervous show cattle, foot rot to anti oxidant and prostate health in humans. Google selenium and see what comes up about cancer, or check this out youtube/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cPoeMieQpZQ Went to a clients that took 3 yrs to convince to feed organic selenium just been on it since November 2013, they knew I was coming in February and held off feeding it to a group of cattle so we could observe. Symptoms appeared, day after I arrived started adding organic selenium again, and in three days gone, by making that important addition. When major pharmaceutical company suggests to cattle producers to needle with selenium along with vaccination to improve immune response you know cattle need it. I know we need trace minerals in balance work with your feed representative to know what goes on in your area. Ask your feed person if organic selenium is in your mineral and at what level. Organic selenium is one of my favourites and a real game changer. To contact Mike Earley, email [email protected]
