Our Portuguese colleagues have recently wing-tagged an immature Rüppel´s vulture in the south of the country within the framework on the LIFE project ‘Enhancing habitat for the Iberian Lynx and Black Vulture in the Southeast of Portugal’. It seems likely that this bird will end up visiting the strait of Gibraltar, probably at the end of the summer when the presence of juvenile and immature griffon vultures dispersed southwards from all over the Iberian Peninsula is more notorious in the Strait. This was the case of the Rüppels Vulture wing-tagged in Alicante (Spain) in 2008, which I had the chance to photograph in the strait of Gibraltar in October 2009. Congratulations! We wish all the best both to this project and the vulture.
