Our State Representative and State Senator came to Wakulla tonight to hear directly from their employers. Unfortunately, two of our BOCC members didnt choose to attend and equally as disappointing, only 2 of our School Board members did attend. I applaud Commissioners Ralph Thomas, Jerry Moore, and Richard Harden for attending and speaking. I also applaud School Board Member Melisa Taylor for attending and speaking. It was nice seeing her fellow member Becky Cook in attendance this year, however I would have loved to have heard her reinforce what was said by Missy Rudd and Melisa. The Legislative delegation fully acknowledged that education will be a primary focus this session. Lets hope the SB Members that didnt attend or speak will reach out and let the Delegates know that its time to quit penalizing teachers (and students) via State Mandated Tests, that do not make sense. Lets also hope that the 2 BOCC members that didnt make it will also reach out to the Delegates requesting them to support our Countys legislative proposals. An opportunity was seized by some elected officials and a few citizens tonight. If you want change, you have to be part of the change. Direct contact with your Representative and Senator in a small setting, its hard to beat such an opportunity....
