Our first category for the Miss Pinup Australia nationals was daywear - and my entire ensemble centered around my Cherry Pie Millinery hat. My gorgeous friend Claire had created one with pink flowers, and I took one look at that beautiful coolie inspired hat and knew I had to have an orange and green one! Claire created the entire hat herself, right down to crafting each individual petal for the flowers! WOW! So with this sensational hat made with so much love and dedication in my possession, I had to find an equally beautiful day dress! I trawled Etsy, Ebay, vintage stores, MPA sponsors and the OLL FB group until I finally found a beautiful green dress that I knew would stand out. Its an original late 50s Betty Barclay, still with the matching bolero too! I love the ombre style, and it really stands out from the usual dull 50s day dresses you come across on Etsy. My theme throughout my routines was moving to Australia, which is clearly very close to my heart as I have been living here, leaving my family behind in New Zealand, for almost 5 years now! The vintage NZ scarf was sent over by my mother, and the vintage suitcase I borrowed from a friend. Im a stickler for detail, so I filled my suitcase with vintage goodies. Really I only needed the scarf and the Australian Immigration poster in there, but I also popped in my fur stole, a mounted photograph of my Nanna, and a porcelain perfume atomiser.
