Our first snowy alert of the season: The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Central Iowa region regarding Marshall and Tama Counties, as accumulating snowfall is expected late tonight into Tuesday morning. An area of low pressure will bring precipitation to the area beginning overnight tonight, moving across the northeast and quickly spreading east. The precip may briefly fall as a rain/snow mix before changing over to snow, then persist into the morning hours with the heaviest occurring near sunrise. Total accumulations will be generally 1 to 3 inches across the area with localized, higher amounts possible. Snowfall may accumulate on leafy trees; if becoming heavy, tree damage may occur, along with falling tree limbs. Power outages could also be possible. Snowfall occurring during the morning commute may lead to hazardous travel conditions. Use extra caution when driving.
