Our former governor is at it again - mistaking jokes about public - TopicsExpress

Our former governor is at it again - mistaking jokes about public policy for thoughtful analysis. At a Republican cattle call in New Hampshire, he compared the United States with respect to freedom unfavorably to North Korea, whose leader recently had a relative executed just because he wanted to. The governor was speaking in favor of making it more difficult for registered voters to vote. In my naivete I thought limiting the voting rights of citizens a distinctly North Korean policy. And he has an on-line petition to abolish the IRS. While on a short run this morning - in between debates with myself about how far I should run - I thought of a few consequences of doing what the governor advocates. The INS will shut down, opening the borders. All commercial and private aviation will be grounded because the FAA will be boarded up. VA benefits cannot be paid. VA hospitals will close. There is money in the Social Security and Medicare trust funds to pay benefits, but there will be no employees to write the checks. All soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines will be brought home and furloughed or mustered out. All ships will be mothballed and all planes sprayed with that stuff to preserve them until we come to our senses. Perhaps there will be enough tariff revenue to pay for the mothballing and spraying. The doors of the federal prisons will open. The federal courts will close. There will be no enforcement of federal laws. Follow this buffoon at your peril, America.
