Overheard between two of my sons teammates fathers at his baseball - TopicsExpress

Overheard between two of my sons teammates fathers at his baseball game this weekend: White man asks Asian man his name, so he tells him. White man asks, Do you spell it J-I-A-N? Asian man pauses, then replies Uh....NO. J-O-H-N. Lol I died laughing and as they both turned around to look at me, I just shook my head. The white man stammered something about having a Asian friend that spells it that way and John says, well not all of us are your friend. I felt like Id been transported back in time. I dont know what was worse, to have made the assumption that someone who was Asian couldnt possibly have spelled his name the same way as the American version, or that he had the nerve to mention he had an Asian friend. I wanted to say something to him so bad, but Johns response was priceless. Not sure if its effect was felt as deep as it should have been, but evident by the way first guy skulked off, I know he felt something. I just sincerely hope he learned a valuable lesson that day, one beyond how to best deal with the sheer embarrassment of being in a situation like this.
