PA. State squeezing districts on construction costs Two Bucks County superintendents warned of “devastating effects” to school districts if a state moratorium on reimbursements for approved construction costs continues. Mark Klein of Council Rock and Samuel Lee of Bristol Township told members of a state House Democratic Policy Committee on Tuesday that putting off renovations will force taxpayers to pay more in the long run. Besides the superintendents, union representatives also testified at Tuesday’s hearing, emphasizing how school construction projects would help cut the unemployment rate. Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, deputy speaker pro tempore of the New Jersey House of Representatives and assistant business manager of IBEW Local 269, said his state has budgeted $2 billion more into school construction this year. He was asked about that by state Rep. Mark Longietti, D-7, of Mercer County, as both states are run by Republican governors. “Gov. Christie may not agree with you but he listens,” DeAngelo said.
