PANIC IN THE STREETS told the tension-filled story of a U.S. Public Health Service official and tough New Orleans cop who have only 48 hours to locate a pneumonic plague carrier before an epidemic of the deadly disease weeps the city. The film marked the screen debut of former professional boxer, decorated Army Air Force bomber pilot and future Oscar-winner, Jack Palance (birth name Vladimir Palahniuk) . According to Richard Widmark, Palance, did his own stunt of climbing the boat rope at the films finale after two stuntmen failed. Directed by Elia Kazan and filmed on location in new Orleans, the film won an Oscar for the Best Writing, Motion Picture Story (Edna and Edward Anhalt), but failed at the box office. youtu.be/N2A6GHPScVY
