PDP leader says will lift ban on KUSU if voted to power: Srinagar, April 05: (GNS) A youth leader of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that party is voted to power the party will lift ban on a banned student group of Kashmir University. Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, who is in-charge of party’s youth wing, said: “if people particularly youth give PDP a decisive mandate in the forthcoming polls ban on Kashmir University Student Union (KUSU) and other related organizations will be lifted only to see our future leadership emerging from the campuses.” KUSU is Kashmir’s largest pro-freedom and influential student group based in Kashmir University. The government banned the group in 2010 and its office was demolished by authorities. Despite of ban, the group in past had organized several pro-freedom protests. Parra said history is witness that National Conference has played a damaging role and did a biggest disservice to Kashmiri youth by not allowing vibrant student activism to happen as is happening in other parts of the country because it is feeling threat to its very existence. “Carrying forward his family legacy, Omar Abdullah served a big blow to student politics in Kashmir by banning Kashmir University Student Association (KUSU),” he said. He was speaking during an interaction programme with the students of Kashmir University, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) and Central University at the party’s ‘Youth For Change’ initiative.
