The Tour is a cross-country celebration of Catholic schools that will mark Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Educations (ACE) 20 years of service to under-served children and to the Churchs mission of educating hearts and minds. “Celebrating the Gift of Catholic Schools is the message that literally rolled out from the Notre Dame campus this fall, when ACE leaders, faculty and staff began their journey by bus to events in nearly 50 cities, advancing their mission to sustain, strengthen and transform Catholic schools. The Bus Tour’s visit to the Rio Grande Valley will begin with a daytime visit to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic school in Mission before making its way to Guadalupe Regional Middle School (GRMS) in Brownsville for a celebration that will span two days. The bus tour will be honoring Bishop Daniel Flores as well as UTB’s President Dr. Juliet V. Garcia. “We are so excited to be hosting this bus tour,” said Michael Motyl, GRMS President. “Notre Dame and their Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program has been in the Valley for years, supporting and enriching our Catholic schools. Catholic schools, especially in Brownsville have a rich history, touching the lives of so many of our citizens and impacting our community in profound ways. We really want to invite everyone who has been part of that tradition to join us on Friday for this celebration of Catholic schools.” GRMS is a tuition-free Catholic school serving students of families of low to modest incomes. GRMS will welcome the bus tour in the afternoon of Friday, March 21 with a short tour of the school. Friday evening, along with the University of Notre Dame, GRMS will invite 300 guests, including Catholic school leaders, religious and community leaders, as well as the school’s long-time supporters to a cocktail party at IBC on Ruben Torres showcasing our local Catholic schools and the unparalleled impact they have had on Brownsville, the Rio Grande Valley, and beyond. The festivities will continue at Guadalupe Regional Middle School’s annual Mardi Gras gala on Saturday, March 22 at the Rancho Viejo Convention Center, which will feature the Dean Canty Big Band, a Cajun inspired dinner, a mini midnight parade, and special guests: the University of Notre Dame. Sponsorship tables for that event are available now by calling GRMS at 956.504.5568. ###
