POETRY: THE NOVEL ****AMAZON REVIEW**** This book really had me hooked from page one. I was very into the emotional thought of a male struggling to find his faith. I also believe that the title poetry may make other readers think this book is full of poetry, but it is actually a narrative. --------- New excerpt from POETRY: The Novel 🔥 -The car ride to Elementary school- Rell?” I turned down the music. “Whassup, man?” “God sees everything you doing and everything you’re about to do.” I looked back at him. His eyes were locked on mine as soon as I turned around. His stare made me uncomfortable, so I swiftly turned back around and focused on the road, occasionally glancing at him through the rearview mirror. I paused for a little while before I responded. “I know, Pooter. I- I know God sees everything. Why you say that?” He avoided my question all together and continued to speak. “Don’t let the devil trick you. He always tryin’ to trick people, but God said wait for Him.” I was speechless. This was coming from a second grader, a seven-year-old little boy who was speaking so clearly to me about what God could do, and what the devil wanted to do. I was in a state of disbelief, and as he continued to talk to me, I felt my eyes beginning to water. “Just pray and God will help you. Don’t give in, ‘Rell. God has too much in store for you. Just be patient and wait.” We pulled up to his school just as he was done speaking. I looked in the rearview mirror to wipe the tears from my eyes before they had a chance to fall. He got out of the car and waited for me by his door so I could walk him to his classroom. I began to daydream before he knocked on the window. “‘Rell, come on. I’m gonna’ be late.” I got out of the car and walked around to his side where his outreached hand was waiting to connect with mine. We walked. He focused on the door ahead of him, but I was focused on him. I wanted to keep him in the car and talk to him. I wanted to ask him why he said what he did and what made him say it. How could he know what God wanted me to do and what a trick from the devil was at seven years old? I wanted to speak, but my voice was paralyzed. Before I knew it, we were at Pooter’s classroom. I didn’t even remember going through doors or walking past anyone. It felt like Pooter walked me to class and not vice-versa. “You got everything Pooter?” “Um... Yup.” “Ok. You want me to pick you up after school too?” “Yeah. You or Tila cuz Mama never takes me to get happy meals after school.” I laughed. “You ol’ cheeseburger head!” A wide smile jetted across his face and pushed his cheeks up to his eyes. “You ol’...pickle head.” We could go back and forth endlessly, coming up with all types of nouns to place in front of “head” just to make the other person laugh. I cut it short. “Ok. Take your coat off and Tila or myself will pick you up later. Have a good day at school, love you.” “Ok, love you too.” We did our secret big brother-little brother handshake that made him feel cooler than all of the other children his age. I walked away from him as he hung his coat and book bag on the hook under his name. I looked back one last time just before he entered his classroom. Children yelled, “Hi, Darrell” in synchronized voices as soon as he stepped into the class. They were happy to see him. I turned back around and headed out of the building. A picture of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Jesus hung right above the exit. I shook my head in disagreement and opened the door as the cool winter breeze brushed against my face. ------- 💥If you want to be added to the e-mailing list for free giveaways and more, leave your e-mail address in the comments section💥 WATCH THE OFFICIAL TRAILER HERE!!! youtu.be/oSmp6v4SiHQ
