POLITICS OF BITTERNESS IN EKITI. In the last ten years or more - TopicsExpress

POLITICS OF BITTERNESS IN EKITI. In the last ten years or more the people of Ekiti had been exposed to political brigandage & recklessness. Within the period, the state has witnessed sporadic changes of governors, many political killings, corruption in every nook & corner among other debilitating insults our long-suffering people have suffered! Within this period too, the state has tasted a state of emergency as pointers to disorderliness which should not be. Where do we go from here? Today, the state has become a huge joke among other states in NIGERIA. There is fear, anger, bitterness & vendetta openly displayed everywhere in the state. Innocent people are being killed in the crossfire of political struggles... These are very tough times in the land. It is not a time to point accusing finger or to praise or condemn everybody... This is a time of shame, sorrow & sadness for an homogenous people who dont appreciate their opportunity. Where are the elites, the professors, the egg heads, the economic, legal & political gurus from my dear Ekiti? Where are the elders, the traditional, religious & political leaders from Ekiti? Where are the grass root politicians, the civil servants, the youths, students & all Ekiti people at home and abroad? This is the time for all of us to feel a collective sense of shame. One is ashamed of the tomfoolery & travesty parading as politics in Ekiti since 1999. I have no praise for any political gladiator and their cohorts inside or outside since then. Why are most of our politicians & pressure groups so petty, bitter & wicked? Why are we killing and destroying ourselves?...Are we the only state in NIGERIA that every political shenanigan must be identified with us? Are we saying we dont deserve a state? Our people suffered untold odium & insults when we were parts of defunct Western State & Old Ondo State. Cant we rule, administer or manage ourselves? Maybe we should be shared into Ondo, Osun & Kogi States for a period of 50 years to learn some lessons...Or maybe the federal government should by law be appointing non indigenes to rule us until we learn order? I am laughing in Ekiti over the insults we have imposed upon ourselves by re-enacting the Wild Wild West experience of yore in our Land of Honour. Upon all the men of ideas and knowledge we parade, we cannot live together & play politics of progress & development? Instead for many of our elites, academicians, professionals, prominent persons etc to work together with elected or appointed leaders, majority of them would rather foment troubles to get certain benefits or remain relevant. They have been behind most of all the political brigandage in Ekiti since 1999! Today, some people are trying to implement the script prepared for them from outside Ekiti to destroy the heritage! Some of our people are already in the trenches to make the state ungovernable because of politics! Some have started killing people and plotting to kill others...Why? Cant we play politics of live and lets live? Must we or our party win all the time? Cant the ordinary people leave politics to politicians and mind their businesses? Why must everybody in Ekiti be active politicians? ??????? My I use this piece to call for a truce & tranquility & allow peace to reign in the state. Permit me to call on all leaders in Ekiti & every bona fide Ekiti man or woman @ home and abroad to contribute to make the state a haven of peace. Everyone can contribute one thing or another. Mere goodwill or prayer could contribute to the establishment of peace. We call on all leaders of in Yorubaland and NIGERIA as a whole who have friends among our leaders and people to reach out and support us at this time to enger peace and security. Innocent people are perishing Lastly, let every Ekiti man or woman feel concerned in this matter and contribute to making the state a haven of peace. We can vote and accept the results of the voting in free and fair election like what is done all over the world too.. Ori Ekiti kete a gbe kete ra o! Amin
