POST #23 FINISHING So after you have woven the length of your project you have the awesome task of taking your weaving off the loom and unfolding it! It is rather exciting indeed. Don’t panic if you can see the centre fold, once your fabric is washed you will not see it. So to finish my blanket I twisted the ends.... I did start with 2 ends per group, so 4 ends to make one twist but decided it was far better to do 4 in each group...well much quicker. I did say it would be a fringe without knots, but you still have to tie a knot in the end of each twist to hold it while washing, then the ends are cut off and the twists will stay because they are starting to felt together. I soaked my blanket in warm water in the machine for 1 hour before I set it on a wool wash. After the first wash I checked it and felt I still wanted it a bit more fulled, almost felted. Once removed from the machine I lay it out flat on the floor and flattened it (ok beat it) with my hand and straightened the edges. Once I was happy with the shape I left it to dry overnight and then trimmed all the knots off the fringes. I am really really happy with the results. It is lovely and soft. The size before washing was 198cm x 157cm excluding the fringe. The size after washing/fulling is 165cm x 133cm excluding fringe. And some photos that were not taken in my dark dining room with my cell phone :-) enjoy. PDF file will be updated this afternoon. (I will even lay this out a bit more attractively and upload again....in the week or so).
