PRESS RELEASE: BDS South Africa wishes Jewish comrades and community a Happy New Year/Shana Tova! 24 September 2014 ymlp/zqW66C The Palestine solidarity and human rights organization, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel in South Africa (BDS South Africa), wishes the Jewish community Shana Tova Umetuka, a happy and sweet New Year and well over the fast. We wish our Jewish comrades and members of the Jewish community strength and guidance during these days of Rosh Hashana as they undertake a two-day period of prayer, introspection and reflection. Values such as justice and equality are held dear by Jews around the world as evidenced by the brave Jews who stood up against apartheid in South Africa (even though speaking up against apartheid was not kosher nor approved by the Jewish esablishment organizations such as the SA Jewish Board of Deputies). We also salute the growing number of South African Jews who are members and supporters of the larger international non-violent BDS movement seeking to pressure Israel to negotiate with the indigenous Palestinian people for a just solution in the Palestine-Israel.
