PROBLEMS WITH YOUR DOG? Does your dog have you trained? Does your dog misbehave? If your dog is demanding or not listening to you, you may need to be retrained. If you want to reverse the roles then you need to show the dog that he can trust and accept you as the leader. Your dog will behave better when he knows his place, has proper exercise, and mental stimulation. Believe it or not, it is up to you to teach the dog what you want vs. what you do not. A dog is the product of your training or lack thereof no matter what their age is. You are in charge of the dogs resources and they need to know that. You pet them, feed them, play with them and show them love and attention. Please remember when your dog does what you want, he gets rewarded with the thing he wants. The dog MUST earn the food, treats, play time and love. There is no free lunch, say please, or nothing in life is for free should start to ring through your head in order to change things around. Do not give away resources. Do not touch, pet, snuggle, treat, feed, etc for no reason. Your attention/food is valuable to your dog. DO NOT give it away for free, make your dog earn it. Example: Dog should sit before getting fed. Before the walk, the dog must sit to put the leash on. If your dog wants to play have the dog sit and shake hands each time you throw the toy. If your dog wants love, have the dog lie down before providing affection. If the dog wants to go out the door, the dog must sit and wait for you to go out the door first. Not only are you reinforcing the basic training, you are showing the dog that you are the leader. If he refuses to perform the command, dont give in. Be patient and remember that eventually he will have to obey your command to get what he wants. Requiring your dog to work for everything is safe, positive, and non-confrontational. NEVER hit or hurt your dog. All you have to do is effectively communicate. Remember, you will have a well behaved dog if your dog knows who the leader is, gets PROPER exercise and mental stimulation.
